Diego Costa - Free Agent
So, I'm putting 2 and 2 together and getting a five digit answer with decimal points here, but I can't help wondering about whether we would be able to tempt him here for an 18 month contract.

Found this article from last year from Stuart Pearce:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/talksport.com/football/572098/west-ham-transfer-news-diego-costa-west-ham-stuart-pearce/amp/

A brilliant striker on his day. And a horrible bastard.

You lot didn't like my Arnie suggestion. How about Costa then you cunts?

Olly Watkins was a no brainer. As was Eze

I said so at the time. Sorry

Ivan Toney is miles from being Premier League standard.

Let me know if you need any more help

Re: Diego Costa - Free Agent
he said he wanted a striker.
i doubt any of those list were bought "just to appease people".

and lucas perez had a decent goal scoring record.

Re: Diego Costa - Free Agent
Moyes is quoted as not buying a striker in Jan to appease people. I guess not for sake of it. I guess the experiences of Ajeti, Hugill, Perez etc showed this to be futile.

Re: Diego Costa - Free Agent
Ollie Watkins is doing ok for Villa but I don’t remember too many people on here thinking we should be spending 30 million plus on him last summer. It’s easier to say in retrospect.

As far as Diego Costa goes I have heard a few reports saying he wanted 103k a week and a 2.5 year contract. If that’s true then I don’t think anyone can really blame the club for giving that a wide berth. Not forgetting that he doesn’t really fit our manager’s criteria for the way we play.

I wouldn't have a problem with Arnie on loan until the end of the season. Played well under Moyes before and with Antonio and Lanzini.

I reckon / hope we have got our eye on Ivan Toney for the summer. Obviously be more difficult if Brentford get promoted... hopefully Winston will do well there and repair some of the damage from the Benrahma transfer fiasco.

Sorry, had the wrong numbers for Watkins
He was £28m with add ons up to £33m potentially
Given we now arent paying the £5m add ons for Haller you could say that the sale of Haller, Ajeti & Hugill would have bought Watkins.

Thats getting into the swapping of Dowie & Rowland for Trevor Sinclair territory

onsideman 10:33 Tue Feb 2
Re: Diego Costa - Free Agent
I dont think Watkins was even £37m. Closer to £30m

Either way, Haller + Diangana > Watkins

And you didn't have to be in the game to see that

Add in whatever the hell you can get for Anderson money and the chance was there

Re: Diego Costa - Free Agent
It was obvious in the summer that Haller wasn’t working & that someone like Oli Watkins was an obvious replacement
Think he went to the ambitious Villa for £37m so cost would have been net £17m presuming Haller to Ajax (or another) for £20m was on.
That would have been a NEXT LEVEL move

Re: Diego Costa - Free Agent
Whats depressing is that we have needed a striker since the season started, long before we sold Haller.

So they've not just the transfer window find a striker but 3-4 months now and still nothing.

I don't really blame Moyes for this, he is doing his job with the players he has got and we should have a proper scouting team looking for players all year round but our scouting team pretty much consists of GSB agents at the moment.

It's not just the lack of funds, lack of available players, it's the lack of any forsight in the club to not have the right set-up that helps the manager find the right players.

The westham way under gsb. we need a forward, we are linked to a lot, get none, european football boys and girls forget it now gsb will throw it away like the last two times.we will never get the team,.. club we want till the three of them fuck off thats the westham way, the fans wont success more than the team and owners. keep safe all of you, our day will come.

Re: Diego Costa - Free Agent
I suspect Moyes has a few very specific targets, and Sullivan obviously has agents offering him any old shit.

Moyes knows if you dont have much money you have to be cautious and wise in how you spend it, and that Rome wasn't built in a day.

There's another free agent around and he's already at the club. CFC can replace Antonio when he gets injured

Hard to believe we couldn't find a Suitable player with the 20m available from the Haller sale.

Or maybe it's harder to believe the money was really available as promised.

I expect us to drop down the table, the transfer window and yesterday's game shows the brakes will be put on and european football will try to be avoided at all cost

Re: Diego Costa - Free Agent
He wants the club to stay up, nothing more, and that’s been achieved, so Moyes will just have to get on with what he’s got.

Johnson 10:20 Mon Feb 1
Re: Diego Costa - Free Agent
He was complaining about having to pay to take the team to Everton.

If the club is so skint it cannot afford that, then he will not want us going to Europe and having guaranteed European travel to a number of games.

He's also not backing his manager, at a time where we have a fantastic chance to qualify for Europe. Not investing now is an OBVIOUS sign he does not want us to succeed but has worked out that even without Antonio for the rest of the season we will not go down.

If we were 6th bottom I can guarantee you we would be getting a striker in from somewhere.

I base my opinion on what the cunt does, not the bullshit he trots out that fans gobble up.

Re: Diego Costa - Free Agent
"David Sullivan does not want the club to succeed."

Nonsense. Of course he does. Then HE makes more.

He doesn't want to go bankrupt doing it, though.

He's SHIT at making the club succeed, though. Chucked loads of money at Pellegrini which was a waste (hindsight!) and the club remains in a financial black hole. He manages to sanction massive overspending (Benrahma, IMHO)

Johnson 9:52 Mon Feb 1
Re: Diego Costa - Free Agent
We won't be signing him, very unlikely we will be signing anyone.

David Sullivan does not want the club to succeed.
